MELVIN EUGENE 'Gene' ALLEN

Melvin Eugene "Gene" Allen, 78, of Bartlett, died July 5, 2008. Services were July 8. He had just honored his 60th wedding anniversary on July 3. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Bartlett Baptist Church. He was on the Shelby County Board of Equalization, the Planning Commission for the City of Bartlett and the Zoning Board for Bartlett. Gene leaves his wife Lenora Powell Allen; children Rebecca "Becky" Allen of Jackson, MO, Dennis Eugene Allen of Cordova, Joseph Richard "Ricky" Allen of Bartlett; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.MARTHA "Marnita" P. Martha P. Carruthers, 83, died July 2, 2008. Services were July 5. She was an office manager for P&C Oil Co. and a member of Arlington United Methodist Church for 75 years. LILA SPARKS RUSHING DAVIE

Lila Sparks Rushing Davie, 94, died June 30, 2008. Services were July 2. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for the past 30 years and previously a member of Ellendale Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and worked with youth groups. She follows her husbands, Alton Rushing and Harold Davie; son, Mitchell Rushing; and sisters, Jimmie Gibson Noel and Virgie Floyd. She leaves her children, Irene Parker of Atoka, Tenn., Celia Pollard of Hudsonville, Miss., Joe Rushing of Arlington; eight of her nin grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of distant relatives and friends. Make memorials to Broadmoor Baptist Church in Memphis.

MARY KATHRYN GARRETT

Mary Kathryn Garrett, 81, of Millington, died June 27, 2008. Services were June 30. She was a retired dental assistant for Dr. Lloyd Reed, member of Crosspointe Baptist Church, volunteer Pink Lady at Methodist North Hospital for 10 years and taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She follows her husband, Herbert Garrett. She leaves her daughter, Janice Loft of Millington; sons, Thomas Millington of Horn Lake, MS, Ricky Millington of Millington, Frank Millington of Senatobia, Miss., David Millington of Bartlett; sisters, Bennie Jewel Loft, Edith Bowman, Ethel Ruffin, all of Millington; brother, Duncan Roberts, Selmer, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Make memorials to Alzheimers Association.

CEASAR GARRONE JR.

Ceasar Garrone Jr., 87, of Memphis, died July 2, 2008. Services were July 5. He was a World War II Army veteran, retired from Scott Street Market, and a member of St. Ann Catholic Church of Bartlett. He follows his wife, Annie Garrone and brother, John Garrone. He leaves his sister, Rose Mary Woodard of Memphis; niece, Roseanne and Drew Phillips; nephew, Lyman and Patsy Woodard Jr., all of Cordova; three great-nieces, Shea, Natalie and Brooke Woodard.

CURTIS GRAVES

Curtis Graves, 88, of Memphis, died July 7, 2008. Services were July 9. He was retired from the Memphis Public Works Department, a World War II Navy Veteran, member of Orchi Baptist Church, a former member of the Lewis Senior Center, Raleigh Moose Lodge, and a 32 Degree Mason. He follows his wife of 70 years, Julia Graves. He leaves his son, Mike and Christi Graves of Bartlett; daughters, Shirley Newsom and Dollie and Alvin Simpson, both of Memphis; sister, Ruth Walker of Walnut, MS; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Make memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

GRACIE MAUREE GRAY-STRAWN

Gracie Mauree Gray-Strawn, 68, of Memphis, died July 3, 2008. Services were July 7. She follows her brother, Bobbie D. Gray. She leaves her campanion of 25 years, Oliver Daniel "O.D." Millican; former husband Jimmy B. Strawn of Corinth, MS; daughter Jayna Strawn, Bartlett; sons, James and Vickie Straw of Atoka, Tenn., Kristopher and Paula Strawn of Bartlett; sisters, Barbara Ann "Tootsie" Kirk of Ripley, Miss.; brothers, Billie G. and Carol Gray; Hugh W. and Brenda Gray of Southaven, Miss.; sister-in-law Ann Gray of Atoka, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.

RICHARD O. JOHNSON

Richard O. Johnson, 68, of Arlington, died July 6, 2008. Services were July 10. He was the owner of Micro Systems Precision Scales and served in the U.S. Air Force. He follows his wife, Gloria Johnson, and sister, Delores Dubler. He leaves his daughters, Candi and Joey Bomprezzi, Kay and Roger Daggett, Lee and Pat Lockridge, Brenda and Todd Main; sons, Kenneth and Gail Johnson, Terry and Susan Johnson; sisters, Anna Ferrell, Wilma and Gordon Swain; brothers James and Marie Johnson, Pete and Yoshiko Johnson, Loral and Eva Johnson, Elmo and Virginia Johnson, Sherrill and Evelyn Johnson, Gaylon Johnson; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

LINDA FAYE JONES

Linda Faye Jones, 60, died July 4, 2008. Services were July 8. She was a private duty nurse for Wade Nursing Services and a member of First United Pentacostal Church of Millington. She is preceeded in death by one brother, Robert Allen Sims. She leaves a daughter, Tina Jones of Munford, Tenn.; sons, Roy Wayne Jones Jr. of Munford, Donald Ray Jones of Atoka, Tenn., Michael Lee Jones of Brighton, Tenn.; sisters, Shirley Ann Seagraves of Memphis, Mary Lou Sims of California, Joyce Ann Sims of Memphis; brothers, John Stanley Sims of Arlington, Donald Lee Sims of Memphis; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 15 nieces and nephews. ZOLLIE 'Dan' LOGAN

Zollie "Dan" Logan, 65, died June 24, 2008. Services were June 29. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, received the Purple Heart in Viet Nam, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice, Cum Laude, from the University of Memphis and was a Case Manager at Mark Luttrell Reception Center. He follows his parents, Zollie and Laura Logan. He leaves his wife, Norene Wolfe Logan; daughters, Angela Logan of Arlington, Brandi Norris of Bartlett and Laura Larson of St. Charles, Mo.; granddaughters, Courtnie Logan, Amber, Kaitlyn and Hannah Norris; sisters, Martha Schmidt of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Peggie Riddle of Gilbert, Ariz. Helen J. Schocke, 91, of Cordova, died July 2, 2008. Services were July 7. She was an avid flower gardener and a member of First Assembly of God. She follows her husband of nearly 60 years, Frank J. Schocke, an infant son Joseph Lee, and a grandson Scott Schocke. She leaves three sons, Herbert L. Schocke of Rossville, Tenn., Harold E. Schocke of Greenwood, Ind., Donald G. Schocke of Moscow, Tenn.; three daughters, Mary E. Schocke of Greenbrier, Tenn., Joyce R. White of Arlington, and Cheryle E. Grisham of Oakland, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

WOODROW EVERETTE SMITH

Woodrow Everette Smith, 75, died July 7, 2008. Services were July 10. He retired from TWRA as a Law Enforcement Area Supervisor in 1988, was a part-time employee of Co-Op Tennessee Gin, member of Mason Presbyterian Church, TSSAA umpire for 25 years, and a Korean War Army veteran. He leaves his wife, Wandy S. Smith; daughters, Terri S. Thomas of Covington, Gayle S. Proctor of Franklin, Tenn., Carole S. Smith of Stanton, and Mollie S. Price of Covington; sisters, Wanda Selph of San Antonio, Texas, Dianne Jones of Eads, Tenn., Judy Bishop and Mary E. Simpson, both of Arlington, and Linda Oudin of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Charlie Smith of Hampshire, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Gracie Theo Stanford, 90, formerly of Collierville, died June 27, 2008. Services were June 30. She follows her parents, Joe and Alice Renfroe Bishop; husband, Charlie Robert Stanford; sisters, Mayme Mullins and Nellie Jewel Bishop; and brothers, Clyde and Howley Bishop. She leaves her daughter Sandra Hampton, of Bartlett; sons, David Stanford of Westmoreland, Tenn., and Donald Stanford of Cedar Grove, Tenn.; sister, Annie Ruth Volner, of Covington, Tenn.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

TORANIO "Nick" NICHOLAS WALKER

Toranio Nicholas Walker, 21, of Memphis, died July 4, 2008. Services were July 12. He was a graduate of Bartlett High School. He leaves his mother, Rose Boyd Walker; sister, Toronda Walker Criswell; grandmother, Katherine Boyd, all of Memphis; uncles, James Tuggle of Birmingham, Ala. and Curtis Adams; niece, Kinnede Criswell, both of Memphis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

EMMA JOE WILLIAMS

Emma Joe Williams, 70, died July 2, 2008. Services were July 12. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church. She was born in Hickman, Ken., and was a longtime resident of Galloway, Tenn. She follows her husband, Bobby R. Williams. She leaves her sons, Joe L. Bowers and wife, Lisa, of Oakland, Tenn., Steven J. Bowers of Galloway, Tenn., and Bobby R. Williams Jr. of Oakland, Tenn.; sister, Virginia Ann Wester of Memphis; aunt, Mary Gene Newton of Hickman, Ken; six grandchildren, including granddaughter, Stephanie N. Bowers, who she raised. JULIA WILLIAMS

Julia Williams, 91, of Memphis, died June 27, 2008. Services were July 2. She was a retired clerk for the Memphis Defense Depot and a Methodist. She leaves her daughters, Pauline Williams Williams, of Corinth, Miss., Patricia Williams Stroup, of Fairfax, Va., and Sandra Williams Sylvester, of Southaven, Miss.; sister, Irma Herring Houser, of Bartlett; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
