July 2
•The Collierville Farmer’s Market will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on July 2 at 167 Washington Street in front of the Collierville Community Services Center. Vendors will be selling locally grown fruits and vegetables.
July 3
•The 24th annual Collierville Independence Day Celebration will begin at 6 p.m. at H. W. Cox Jr. Park. Food and beverage vendors will be located in the nearby parking lot. The town of Collierville will hand out 10,000 glow stick flags for the event. Musical group The Soulsations will perform at 6:05 p.m., 7:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. A Veterans Flag Ceremony will be held at 8:20 p.m. A fireworks presentation will begin at 9:30 p.m. A free shuttle will be available from 5:30-10:30 p.m. at Collierville High School. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
•The Comcast Firecracker 5K Run/Walk for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will begin at 7 p.m. July 3 at the Racquet Club of Memphis. Over the past 10 years, the Comcast Firecracker 5K has generated more than $353,000 in support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event was conceived 11 years ago when Susan Hedgepeth was trying to raise money for St. Jude to honor her best friend, Libby Wilson Stooksberry, who had been diagnosed with glioblastoma. Libby lost her battle with cancer on May 7, 1999. The Comcast Firecracker 5K Run/Walk has continued to honor her memory and others. July 4
•The Mid-South Tea Party and Independence Day Celebration will be held from 1-4 p.m. on July 4 at Patriot Lake in Shelby Farms. The theme for the family-friendly event is “Celebrating America’s Greatness.”
Music, face painting, a moon walk, educational exhibits, speakers, horseshoes and entertainment offer a variety of activities. Admission is free and all are asked to bring a picnic, lawn chairs and patriotism. Participants are encouraged to interact with fellow citizens and express their thoughts and feelings about the current state of affairs through signs and banners.
This second “Tea Party” event is being held on Independence Day to symbolize the significance of the founding fathers’ signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, declaring themselves free from an oppressive government that did not represent them.

•An Alzheimer’s Awareness Tour and Breakfast Event is scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. on July 6 at Embassy Suites Hotel in Memphis. The event includes free “Making a Memory” personalized family DVDs, screening of “Momentum in Science” from HBO’s The Alzheimer’s Project, Alzheimer’s experts discussion and Q & A roundtable featuring physicians, caregivers and others involved in Alzheimer’s clinical research studies. •The Avenue Carriage Crossing will present Screen on the Green at 8:15 p.m. July 10 at Community Park. Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic basket, blanket and chairs to enjoy a complimentary movie under the stars.

•The Avenue Carriage Crossing will present a Showcase Performance by New Day Children’s Theatre Summer Drama Workshop on July 10 and 17 at Central Park. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
July 13-31
•The second session of Camp Smile will begin at 9 a.m. on July 13 at the Collierville Community Center. Camp enrollment is limited to 15 campers per session. The fee is $325. Sponsored by the Collierville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Departments, the camp is designed to meet the needs of youth ages 6 and older with special needs. Campers participate in a variety of activities including crafts, songs, story-time and games. The camp also features field trips and special activity days. •A seminar regarding Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy for treating menopause and PMS will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 21 at the Women of Wellness at 642 W.
